Serving The Community
Callan Co-op Society is based in the town of Callan, Co. Kilkenny, situated just off the Callan bypass, 10 miles from Kilkenny and 18 miles from Clonmel. We employ a total of 30 staff.
We service a ten mile radius of Callan taking in the following areas: Ballingarry, Mullinahone, Cloneen, Drangan, Grangemockler, Poulecapple, Nine Mile House, Killamery, Windgap, Kilmoganny, Dunnamaggin, Kells, Burnchurch, Danesfort, Cuffesgrange, Ballycallan and Kilmanagh.
“Serving the community for the second century” is the Callan Co-op slogan and is doing business now for 111 years.
The Co-op is farmer-owned and has 160 shareholders. Forty six milk suppliers produce over 3 million gallons of milk. This milk is collected by the Society and is delivered to Glanbia, Ballyragget for processing.
The Co-op has a grain handling facility that takes in grain from 25 grain growers in the locality. The grain is dried, stored and processed into high quality coarse rations including cattle, beef, dairy, calf, sheep and our special horse ration.
We also stock a large range of bag feeds from Connolly’s Red Mills, Goresbridge, Centenary Feeds and Greenvale Animal Feeds, Thurles, Co Tipperary.
In 2005, a substantial investment was made with a new hardware shop, new storage and parking facilities. The Co-op has expanded to become a one-stop shop for all of your hardware and agricultural needs. We are classed as “General Hardware Merchants” covering everything from a needle to an anchor. The following is a comprehensive range of goods we provide to the farming and the wider community, timber, steel, building materials, indoor and outdoor paints, plumbing fittings, household goods, garden supplies, electrical fittings, flower and vegetable seeds, D.I.Y. goods, sprays and chemicals, pet care products, animal health, bathroom accessories and interior decoration.
The Co-op also provides a fine forecourt and filling station along with a “Londis Foodmarket”. This is a convenience store that is open seven days a week with an expansive deli counter providing a range of deli food, hot and cold meats. The serviced forecourt has ample car parking. Other services include a newsagent, phone top-up, tea and coffee to go and photo development. This facility is managed by Mr. Stephen Walsh.
